Things to do in Rhyd Ddu and the Snowdonia National Park

There are so many things to do and places to see in and around the stunningly picturesque Snowdonia National Park in Wales that we couldn't possibly list them all on this page. However, below you will find a summary and list of some of our favourite activities and attractions, none of which are more than about 35 minutes away and many much closer than that.

Hiking / Walking

Rhyd Ddu is the perfect place to base yourself if you enjoy walking/hiking. Being at the foot of Mount Snowdon there are many foot paths, in fact the start of famous Rhyd Ddu Path is only yards from the cottage, and there is also a link path to the start of Snowdon Ranger Path, again just a few yards from the cottage.  For more detailed information about the walking and hiking routes in and around Rhyd Ddu please click here.

Cycling and Mountain Biking

There are many cycling routes around the area, for the very adventurous there are some very tricky routes and trails, but more gentle and family routes can be found too, especially around Beddgelert Forest which is just next to the village. For more detailed information about cycling and mountain biking around Rhyd Ddu and the Snowdonia National Park click here.

Rock Climbing and Bouldering

Snowdonia is said to be blessed with some of the most celebrated and varied rock climbing and bouldering in the world. The landscape lends itself perfectly to the sport, with so many steep mountain ridges and sea cliffs in such a small area. Rhyd Ddu is ideally placed, being right at the foot of Snowdon, and not far from many classic mountain routes. There are also opportunities to learn to climb with professional climbing instructors which operate within the local area (see local attractions for links). There's also an indoor Rock Climbing Wall just a few miles away at Harlech.

Local Beaches

Wales is famous for its beautiful beaches and many of them are in North Wales. A few of the beaches, such as Abersoch and Whistling sands are up to an hour or so away but there are some little gems that are less than half an hour's drive from the cottage and these are the ones listed here...

Morfa Bychan - Black Rock Sands (a beautiful stretch of beach where you can actually drive your car on the sand. It is also designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest)

Harlech Beach (renowned as one of the area's most beautiful beaches)
